Ceramics

A monthly course in which students will learn the basics of hand building; including pinch, coil, soft and stiff slab construction, and pottery wheel. We will also explore a variety of surface decoration. No experience needed, our instructor will guide you from the very beginning.

*All clay is included in the workshop, with the option to buy more if needed for extra studio time.

*FREE studio time, meaning you can come in anytime to work as long as the studio is open. This lesson will provide students with an initial, successful experience with ceramics hand building. Students will learn the basics of pinch, coil, soft and stiff slab construction, along with cutting techniques to create different shapes. Students will glaze their work using different painting techniques as well.
Students will:

• Learn how to be sensitive to the nuances of shaping clay with just their hands.

• Learn how to create a three-dimensional, rounded pot-form from clay.

• Learn how to use clay in an appropriate manner.

• Have an enjoyable, successful review of hand-built clay work

• Demonstrate their skills in creating and finishing a three-dimensional pot out of clay.

• Develop an understanding of the hand building technique called pinch potting and coil pottery. They will build these and be able to discuss the process having learned ter-minology associated with the workshops.
CLOTHING Please be dressed for mess as we will be using professional art supplies which mostly do not come out of clothing.

ARRIVAL Please arrive on time as all classes begin promptly as scheduled.

ARTWORK PICK UP We’ll dry and fire your ceramic pieces in our kiln for you to take home approximately two weeks later and will call/text you to let you know when your pieces are ready for pick up. Kiln clay explosions are unlikely but they do happen. In the event of your art being damaged due to a kiln explosion, we are happy to provide emotional support and offer you a chance to come in and remake your ceramic piece.

CANCELLATION POLICY Please note we require 24 hours notice for workshop cancellation and will provide credit only. Same day re-schedule requests will incur a $15 fee. No refunds. Prices do not include tax.
